Inquest Hearings

The dates of all currently scheduled hearings are set out below.  Please note this inquest schedule is regularly updated and may be subject to change.

If significant travel arrangements are to be made you should first confirm the hearing is going ahead by checking with the appropriate coroner's officer and in all cases you are advised to re-review the inquest schedule shortly before the hearing date. 

Please note the purpose of an inquest opening is to confirm who it is that has passed away and when and where they died, in open court. This will only take a few minutes and is an administrative function. Following this hearing, the inquest will be adjourned to allow for evidence to be gathered.

For openings and short inquests which have no family in attendance, the time indicated is the earliest that the hearing will occur, ie it may be heard after this time, dependant on court timings and other pressures.

Inquests in Writing will usually be completed within one week of the advertised date. Please be aware that journalists requesting disclosure will be required to provide proof of accreditation.

At most hearings participants will be invited to attend court in person and there will not be any remote access facility made available.  

If the Coroner has determined, following an application made by an interested person in the inquest, that a 'hybrid hearing' will be held then participants may join the proceedings by videolink. In such cases non-participants (i.e. press and/or members of the public) may also apply to observe that hearing by remote link.  

Any application to attend a hearing remotely must be made in writing by completing the remote access attendance form by no later than 12 noon two working days before the proceedings commence. Applications MUST include the reasons being put forward as to why remote access should be granted. The Coroner will then consider all applications received and will permit remote attendance if satisfied that it would be in the interests of justice, there is the capacity and technological capability to enable it, and it would not create an unreasonable administrative burden on the court.
